MUSEUM & SOCIAL NETWORK

Click here to visit the blog
Auckland Museum is a standout institution both within New Zealand, the Pacific and internationally. A few years back in 2010 the museum was in trouble but right now they have a right to a claim to be amongst the leaders of the pack in their field. When they were refurbishing their museum the staff ran a blog to keep their community informed and engaged – they unknowingly were setting the pace that other are yet to catch up with. The BLOG has grown up to become a dynamic part of the institutions public face and the starting point for all kinds of community activity.

Congratulations all round!

Apps & iPads Invoke Change

CLICK HERE TO GO TO SOURCE

Stay in touch with developments of interest to YOU wherever you are – at home, on the road, wherever.

The paradigm of the 'iPad App' is a newish way to get to publications – magazines, museums, news networks – content. Musers can browse news about exhibitions, publications, research and other events from the leading, commentators, international museums, art centers, foundations, biennials and art journals, plus read current and past commentaries. The iPad App offers us the added functionality to search, store, and share developments, journal essays, exhibition announcements and more still.

Information is going viral in the 'New Paradigm' we find ourselves in and the signals are telling us to "join in or eat our dust". The “Only Thing We Have to Fear Is Fear Itself”, FDR’s First Inaugural Address March 4 1933 at the deepest depths of the Great Depression somehow has a resonance here – change or have change imposed from around us.

The Cure For Greed

CLICK ON THE IMAGE TO ENLARGE
Whether we like to admit it or not, greed is one human emotion we all will face at some point. Conceptual artist Diddo has used this observation as the premise for his latest work, “The Cure For Greed”. Using an intricate chemical separation process, the artist extracted and recovered pigment from $10,000 of US currency, individually dosed at 5ml in crimp-sealed medical vials, and paired it with an injection kit, complete with a 24-karat gold syringe, two gold plated needles and packaged into custom monogrammed mahogany or walnut box.  Watch the amazing video, and see what Diddo had to say about the project... click here

MONA: The Proactive Museum

click here to go to source
It's no surprise at all to see that MONA is operating OUTside the square. The 'enterprise' continually sets new standards and points to new paradigms. If one is looking for an exemplar of leadership in a 21st Century 'museum' context, or for that matter any context, then perhaps one needs to look no further for a little while yet.

Musical Alaska: 100 years of John Cage
Alaska Projects
L2, Kings Cross Car Park, 9A Elizabeth Bay Road

Undeniably one of the most influential characters in 20th century music and art, John Cage once said, “I can't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I'm frightened of the old ones.

But nearly 100 years to the day that Cage was born, Sydney zine World’s Only is set to present a tribute to the past ideas of the venerable American composer. From his infamous 4”33’ of silence, to the use of chance procedures and Eastern mythology in composition, Cage continually provoked and challenged audiences, often with tongue firmly in cheek.

The free afternoon concert will be a celebration of the music, art and philosophy of Cage’s 80 year career, performed by young and emerging Sydney musicians including World’s Only editor and Broadsheet contributor Megan Clune, emerging conductor Hoshimi Sakai, musician and director of Serial Space Tom Smith, ABC Young Performer Award finalist Som Howie and many more.
